Just Read

Like most homeschoolers I know, I have a thing for books. In fact, I even have a Pinterest book board.

I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who
think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.

Oh, they are so inspiring, and my To Read list is sooo long. But I'm still taking suggestions, both for my personal reading and for Read-Alouds for the kids (preK, 1st, 4th, 6th grades.)

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.

~Mark Twain

What are you reading these days?

my husband bought both of us a Kindle before Christmas and we both are staying busy reading the free books they offer.

I just read Face the Winter Naked by
Bonnie Turner, about a family during the 1930s depression. It was so good, I was sad when it ended.

Wendy, your Pinterest page made me want to roll around in it! I love books too but don't read enough. You are inspiring me. :)
I recently had the book 'Room' recommended to me. Though I found it to be interesting-it left me feeling flat. Of course my fave this year has been 'The Help'. But like I said, I haven't gotten around to many. Are you on Goodreads? I would like to look at your list. I haven't used mine since I first joined.

I am reading Pride and Prejudice... again! I am also reading Crime and Punishment. I needed a little break from it, though. I just finished One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Loved it. She is one of my favorite authors of all time.
have a great weekend

My husband and kids got me a NOOK for my birthday in January. I think I'm reading more now than ever! I just finished "Room" (an amazing book!) and I'm working on the first of the "True Blood" series, "The Stand" (for about the 1,000th time) a mystery novel I got for a free download, "How to Bake a Perfect Life" (I think that's the title) and, believe it or not, "Pollyanna." Yep, the book I should have read 45 years ago, LOL!
Oh, and lots of crafting books! And magazines. I'm a magazine addict.

I just finished reading 'One Church Four Generations' by Gary McIntosh. It was very interesting & it brought up some great discussions with Joel about his generation & the church. It was published in 2002 so it was hard to figure out what Joel's generation will be like - their characters are still being formed.

Something you can look forward to when your kids are teens - I love when one of us reads a book that's so good we want to share it. Our meal times usually are full of talk about what we've been reading. Not just books but articles & lots of interesting things we've read online. So fun!

Hi Wendy~
Love this post!

I too love read-a-louds with my kids. Last year we read Anne of Green Gables. Then, we watched the movie. I think it's fun when we can watch a movie after. I'm learning my kids almost always like the book more, of course :) This summer we read Soul Surfer and are waiting for the movie to come out on DVD... hopefully it's appropriate for my 9yr. old boy to watch. Next, we're starting Swiss Family Robinson.

A couple of summer's ago my oldest daughter and I hosted a book club for her friends and their moms. My daughter picked out the books and led the book discussion. It was really neat. The last summer read was Kit Kittredge: An American Girl, and the girls ended by watching the movie together.

Books are great!

Yes so like homeschool....and if my four graduates didn't take anything from my school except to read, than I have succeeded. Now they are giving me hard time about all the books they had to move, laughing that their kids will read from I-pads instead. Now wouldn't that be sad.
